The Montgomery County Food Bank recently concluded its annual Holiday Helpings drive, raising enough food and funds to provide more than 440,000 meals to those in need. As requests for food assistance saw a significant spike in the Montgomery County area—growing from over 93,000 visits in September to 111,000 visits in November—the holiday support became imperative. President and CEO Kristine Marlow emphasized the importance of community contributions, stating, "The generosity we witnessed during Holiday Helpings was truly inspiring," highlighting the collective effort that enabled the food bank to provide necessary nourishment to countless neighbors.
Innovative Fundraising Efforts
This year’s campaign incorporated modern fundraising techniques, using Donation Plate cards equipped with QR codes for direct donations. With every dollar raised translating into up to four meals, local businesses rallied around the initiative. Notable participants such as Murex Petroleum Corporation, Hertha Metals, and D.R. Horton were at the forefront, ensuring that essential food items reached children, seniors, veterans, and families across the community.
